Celebrating the Atlantic 85 lifeboat

This week we're celebrating the Atlantic 85, a key player in the RNLI fleet. It's powered by two 115hp engines and can self-right if it capsizes.

In its first 15 years of service, after joining our fleet in 2005, the Atlantic 85 hit some impressive numbers:

  • 23,103 launches
  • 22,825 people rescued
  • 814 lives saved.

Get more fast facts in our latest video:

The Atlantic 85 has been involved in many dramatic rescues since it first launched. Here are five of the very best. Featuring Porthcawl, Lough Derg, Poole, Trearddur Bay and Kinghorn lifeboat crews.

You can help save lives at sea with a donation today. From kit to crew training to kids’ education, you’ll be making a real difference to our volunteers – and the people they save.
