Your kindness will help provide a new lifeboat for West Kirby volunteers

RNLI crews have been saving lives off the Wirral peninsula since 1966, covering 100 square miles around the Dee Estuary. Day or night, lifesavers drop everything to race to the aid of those in need of help. But they can’t do it alone – the RNLI is a charity, and like all our crews, the West Kirby volunteers rely on the generous support of people like you.

The crew’s current lifeboat is nearing the end of its operational life, and, to carry on saving lives, they need your help to raise the final £50,000 needed for a new D class lifeboat.

West Kirby’s lifeboat is reversed into the sea by the station’s launch and recovery vehicle. One crew member is operating the vehicle and three lifeboat volunteers are onboard the lifeboat.

The D class is the reliable workhorse West Kirby RNLI depend on

A new lifeboat will give us the best chance of saving every one

West Kirby’s current D class lifeboat has launched 55 times over the last 2 years alone. In that time, she’s helped save 3 lives and aided 61 people. But the salt and the seasons take their toll.

Since the D class joined the RNLI fleet in 1963, its design has evolved to meet the changing needs of our search and rescue service. The latest generation was introduced in 2003 and is faster, more manoeuvrable and better equipped. With a new D class, the West Kirby crew will be able to launch to the rescue time and again.

You can give our volunteers the new lifeboat they will depend on when others depend on them.

‘In our book, D stands for dependable’

‘My dad was one of the original West Kirby volunteers. With your help, I’ll be able to keep the family tradition going.

'With a new D class lifeboat, I’ll have the right equipment, the right training and the right boat. I’ve never gone out on a dark and stormy night and worried about having the right kit - the D class can take on anything.

'The lifeboat is ideal for the area’s shallow waters, and the types of rescues we carry out - she can get in close to cliffs and rocks, and can even be beached if necessary. With your help, we’ll be able to rely on the D class for many years to come.’
