'We need your support more than ever'
'More people than ever need our help,' says Steve King, Helm at Tower Lifeboat Station on the River Thames. 'People are still drowning so we need to invest more in training crews, upgrading equipment and improving lifeboats. But we’re a charity, and our income has gone down.'
Whether they save lives at sea or on rivers and lakes, crew members like Steve are facing a Perfect Storm. While the demand on our services has grown, our income has gone down due to the economic climate and a drop in money received from supporters' Wills. Volunteers around the UK and Ireland are waiting for updated equipment and facilities. Your donation today will help provide everything they need – you could help save the next life.

'The sea's a scary place'
'People ask us if we get scared,' says Andy Mason, Coxswain at Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Lifeboat Station. 'Well … the sea can be a scary place. If you have the right lifeboat, kit and training, though, you can handle it. But the thought of people getting into trouble without our volunteers having the right gear to answer the call? Now that’s scary.'
The donation you make right now will make sure that brave volunteers like Andy can face the storm.
For example, £20/€20 could go towards the total cost of training a crew member for a year. Or a gift of £50/€50 could help fund a crew member’s kit – the protection a volunteer relies on, while braving the harshest elements.
We’ll make every penny count.
Your donation will save lives in so many ways. In 2018, for every £1/€1 spent, 53p/53c was on lifeboats, property and equipment; 27p/27c on running the lifeboat service; 12p/12c on lifeguard rescue; 6p/6c on safety and education; and 2p/2c on international drowning prevention.
