Enjoy Fish Supper in Somerset by Michelin starred chef to help save lives at sea
Michelin Starred chef Josh Eggleton is supporting The Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s (RNLI’s) annual fundraising event Fish Supper.
Josh and his sister Holly run The Pony & Trap, which has held a Michelin Star since 2011. He has devised a bespoke seafood menu to be showcased on Thursday 12 October at his seafood café Salt & Malt in support of the RNLI.
Josh first visited his local RNLI when he was filming for the Great British Menu in 2016.
He says: ‘It was one of those organisations where I’d always heard about the great work they do, but to see it and meet these people first hand really brought it home for me. In March 2017 we held our first RNLI charity dinner and it was a great success. I had every intention of running a second RNLI event and on Thursday 12 October we’ll be doing just that. This month’s event is going to be a great fish supper, with some of the best seafood around; from whitebait and beetroot cured salmon to traditional fish and chips.’
The event is taking place ahead of the RNLI’s national Fish Supper campaign which runs from 13 to 15 October. Fish Supper is a great excuse for people to get together and the charity is encouraging people to attend or host a fish-themed meal during this weekend to help raise vital funds to enable them to continue saving lives at sea.
Chair of RNLI Chew Valley Fundraising Branch Gillie Slater says: ‘Josh Eggleton is a keen supporter and we are delighted to be working with him and his team at Salt & Malt to raise funds for the RNLI. The special Fish Supper is bound to be a memorable event, with a delightful four course menu plus a glass of fizz. We’re looking forward to getting involved and it would be lovely to see other people hold their own Fish Suppers. Hopefully our relationship with Josh will continue to prosper and events such as this become regular features in the social life throughout the Chew Valley.’
Tickets to the event at Salt & Malt cost £40 per person with all profits going to the RNLI. Josh kindly hosted a gourmet supper at Salt & Malt earlier this year that raised nearly £2000 for the RNLI. Throughout October Salt &Malt will also be giving diners the option of adding a £1 donation to their bill in support of the RNLI.

Last year, RNLI lifeboat crews across the UK and Ireland rescued 8,643 people and saved 431 lives. It costs over £485,000 per day to run the RNLI, and the charity relies on donations from the public to continue its lifesaving service.
