Visiting our Launch a Memory lifeboat
Find out how to make the most of coming to see the Exmouth Launch a Memory lifeboat.
We work hard to ensure that everyone who has added a name to lifeboat 13-03 R and J Welburn can see it. However, please be aware that there are times when the lifeboat may not be in the station, for example, when it’s out saving lives at sea. For this reason, we cannot guarantee that you’ll be able to view your loved one’s name on the boat itself.
To help facilitate you visiting the station to view the names, we have set viewing times as below:- Weekdays during school holidays (as set by Devon County Council)
- Sept-Oct weekends 10.30am-3.30pm
- Nov-Dec weekends 11am-3pm
In addition, you can request a visit on the days and times below. Please contact us by email on [email protected] in advance so that we can ensure a volunteer is available to give you access and welcome you:
- Tuesdays 12pm-1pm
- Thursdays 12pm-1pm

When the lifeboat is in the station, it sits on its launch and recovery system, which means the names may be high above your head and difficult to read. The names on the wheelhouse roof aren’t visible at all, but we’ve provided a display board showing all the decals so you can locate specific names.
Please be aware there are times that the lifeboat is moored afloat and is not viewable in the lifeboat station. At certain times of year public access to the station is reduced, for example, over winter when the main boathouse doors may be kept shut due to the weather. Therefore it is best to check our Facebook page in advance to check when the station is open and if the boat is likely to be viewable so you are not disappointed.
We have placed display panels on the walls outside the station showing the decals from both sides of the hull and the wheelhouse roof, which are viewable at any time.More ways to engage with Launch a Memory
