Recognition and awards

Our volunteers are at the heart of the RNLI. Without all our volunteers - crew, lifeguards, fundraisers, education presenters, shop, community safety, museum and others – the RNLI wouldn’t be able to save lives at sea.

Volunteers deserve recognition for the incredible contribution they make to saving lives at sea. With a range of awards for volunteers including informal thank yous, Long Service Awards and Excellence in Volunteering Awards, we try to ensure both service and efforts are recognised.

Take a look at the options below for more information on how to recognise a volunteer.

Excellence in Volunteering Awards

With our Excellence in Volunteering Awards, staff and volunteers can nominate fellow volunteers who they think deserve special recognition for going above and beyond what is expected of them.

Please let us know of any individual or groups who have gone the extra mile by clicking on the above nomination form.

To allow us to ensure we are providing the nominee with a fair award, we rely on the information given by the nominator. So the more facts, figures and information you provide the more accurate the result is in determining what recognition is appropriate. It is helpful to have specific examples of when the group/individual contributed more than what their role requires and what effect this had.

We aim to let you know the result of your nomination within 3 weeks. If any questions, please contact us:

Long Service Awards

The RNLI is proud to have such long serving volunteers. We recognise their dedication and commitment with Long Service Awards.

Requests for long service awards are now closed for 2021. We are aiming to send all agreed awards out in Spring 2021. These will be sent to home addresses to comply with current social distancing guidelines.

We will be taking requests for 2022 from January.

If any questions, please contact us:

Supporter award

RNLI supporters are any person or business who is not registered as a volunteer but raises funds or awareness on our behalf. Examples of this could be a local business, an individual who has organised a one-off fundraiser or a school.

Please email to request recognition for a supporter.

Informal thank you

We have a range of thank you cards available on Marketing Unity and to order directly from Volunteer Recognition. Please email more information.
