Lifeboats News Release

Cardigan RNLI’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched following a request from HM Coastguard to assist two paddleboarders who had been blown offshore by strong winds.

Lifeguards from Tresaith Beach were already on scene and had located the casualties. However, due to the prevailing offshore wind conditions, they were unable to bring the paddleboarders safely back to shore.

The volunteer crew launched aboard the Atlantic 85 lifeboat and made their way to the location. On arrival, the crew assessed the situation and assisted with the safe recovery of the two paddleboarders before bringing them ashore.

The casualties were returned safely to the beach, where they were left in the care of the lifeguards. The lifeboat was then stood down and returned to station, where it was washed down, refuelled and made ready for service once again.

Water Safety Officer Lyn Adams said 'Conditions at sea can change quickly, so we would encourage anyone planning to head out on the water to check the weather and sea conditions, ensure their equipment is in good working order, and carry a means of calling for help that is charged, waterproof and easily accessible. Choosing a lifeguarded beach where possible and sharing your plans with someone ashore are simple precautions that can help keep everyone safe and enjoying the coast.'
