Skipton RNLI fundraisers reach Hartlepool RNLI
Recent visitors to Hartlepool RNLI lifeboat station were the Shaw family from Skipton, North Yorkshire who were taking part in a fundraiser for the RNLI by visiting as many lifeboat stations as possible.
A very early start from their North Yorkshire home took them to Berwick RNLI lifeboat station and then visiting lifeboat stations along the Northumberland Coast before calling into Hartlepool RNLI lifeboat station where they had a guided tour of the lifeboat station by visits officer Jimmy Slaughter.
Rebecca Shaw said 'For 2 years my son Thomas had a teacher at Skipton Parish Primary School called Mrs Dryland.
Unfortunately for Thomas and all those close to her she passed away suddenly.
She was far too young to leave this world and ever since her parting Thomas has been sad.
As a mum, you want to make it right and although I can’t make it 100% ok. I had an idea.
Mrs Drylands memorial service was on July 10th for all the pupils at the school who wanted to say goodbye. While at the service I learned that Mrs Dryland was a keen supporter or the RNLI and wanted to visit all of the RNLI stations with her husband. She wasn’t able to visit them all so when the service ended I suggested to Thomas that we would do this and we would visit some of the stations in memory of Mrs Dryland and we would leave behind a pot of pre-planted Cornflowers which were her favourite at every location, wrapped with a yellow ribbon that meant something to her.'
Visits officer Jimmy Slaughter said 'I'm sure Rebecca and her family enjoyed the lifeboat station tour during their amazing fundraiser for the charity and thank you for the Cornflowers which will be well looked after'.
Day 2 of their journey eventually ended at Bridlington RNLI lifeboat station before heading home to Skipton and there next adventure will be to the West Coast and Wales.
