West Kirby and Hoylake lifeboat crews represented the RNLI at the Hoylake and District Remembrance Sunday service and parade last weekend. They joined members of the armed forces, cadets, veterans, the emergency services, civic leaders and the local community in remembering those who have lost their lives in conflict.

A wreath was laid by Matthew Pownall-Jones on behalf of volunteer crews on Grange Hill War Memorial, followed by a parade which concluded on the concourse apron, once a wreath had been laid at the community’s original 149th Royal Horse Artillery 'Hoylake Horse' regimental book of remembrance.

Andy Brown, Hoylake and District Remembrance Sunday Committee Operations Manager and West Kirby RNLI Launch Authority said:

‘Another poignant Remembrance Sunday, with fair weather, a truly impressive community attendance of circa 2,700, and splendid parade, paid tribute to those who have, and continue to, serve, honour and protect our country and each one of us.

‘A great thank you must go to Reverend Mary Railton-Crowder, who has now retired from Hoylake and District Remembrance Sunday. Throughout her time, she has modernised the service and battled wind and rain to lead us in paying our respects.

‘Captain Hugh Daglish LVO JP DL RN is retiring as Deputy Lieutenant and taking up the presidency of the Hoylake and District Remembrance Sunday Committee, where we look forward to welcoming him.’

‘A special mention to Wirral Council, Core Traffic Management, our band, and all the marshals whose professionalism, time and dedication enabled our community to pause, reflect and pay our respects - thank you.’
