Wells RNLI Shannon class lifeboat beach recovery

Wells RNLI Shannon class lifeboat Duke of Edinburgh launched from the boathouse at 3:39pm with a crew of seven. Due the sea conditions and the distance to the casualty scene the situation was assessed, and it was deemed not viable to launch the inshore lifeboat at this time.

Sheringham and Cromer coastguards along with the Police were tasked to join the search. The casualty’s car was quickly located in Weybourne beach carpark. Wells RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat arrived at Blakeney at 4:15pm and began to conduct a search close into the shingle beach along Blakeney spit towards Weybourne.

At 4:24pm the volunteer crew on the Duke of Edinburgh had conducted a search and was off Weybourne. Sheringham coastguard officer reported finding the casualty safe ashore at 4:36pm after confirmation that no further assistance was required the lifeboat was stood down at 4:40pm and returned to the boathouse for recovery.

The lifeboat was recovered at 5:36pm. Rehoused and made ready for service by 6:51pm.

Notes to editors

Wells RNLI has a D class inshore lifeboat Peter Wilcox and a Shannon class all- weather lifeboat Duke of Edinburgh. The boathouse and the all-weather lifeboat were new in 2022. The Duke of Edinburgh lifeboat was the first UK Launch a Memory lifeboat, which has 15,000 names printed on the decals. This helped to raise much needed funds for the RNLI and attracts thousands of visitors to the station each year.
