Fleetwood RNLI celebrates volunteers on International Women’s Day
With International Women’s Day, on 8th March, Fleetwood RNLI celebrates and shares the inspiring stories of women volunteers at the station.
In the lead up to the day, the celebrations started this week, where incredible women volunteers joined together at the station, sharing their backgrounds and experiences volunteering.
These women all volunteer within range of roles at the station – from Inshore Lifeboat and All-Weather Lifeboat crew members, Shop and Visits volunteers to Launch Authorities. The station’s next generations also joined in too.
More than 166 years since the station has been established, women volunteers have always been a large part of the history of Fleetwood Lifeboat Station and have made significant contributions to the service. Their dedication and skills have helped saves lives at sea by supporting the local community through their lifesaving roles.
Angela Sanderson, Fleetwood Lifeboat Stations first female helm said:
‘International Women’s Day for me, is a powerful reminder of the progress we have made and the endless possibilities ahead. It’s a day for empowering women and recognising that we have the strengths and determination to achieve anything we set out minds to.’
‘We are capable of reaching our true potential and rising to challenges we once thought were impossible. It’s a celebration of every woman’s ability and a chance to inspire the next generation of women.’
‘Joining the RNLI has not only been a journey of personal growth for me, but it has also given me the opportunity to work alongside some truly amazing people. Being part of such an incredible team is an inspiring and rewarding experience. It is a privilege to contribute to such an important cause, alongside amazing and dedicated people.’
