Wells RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, Chris Hardy, explained: 'The King’s Coronation Medal is being awarded to our lifeboat volunteers who have completed five years of service as at the time of coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla on 6 May 2023.'

Chris continued: 'This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the invaluable contributions of our station volunteers, whose commitment to saving lives at sea is central to the work we do.'

Among those honoured was crew member Martin Emerson, who shared: 'It was a very proud moment for me to receive this prestigious award alongside my fellow crew members. It is an honour to be recognised for our collective efforts in serving our community.'

More than 400,000 coronation medals have been issued across the UK, including to members of the armed forces, prison staff, and frontline emergency workers.

The presentation of the medals highlights the vital role that the RNLI volunteers play in ensuring the safety of those at sea, and is a testament to their dedication to lifesaving work in the region.
