Loch Ness RNLI tasked to locate missing yacht
On Saturday 30 November, Loch Ness RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew launched to assist a yacht that had drifted on Loch Ness.
Four volunteer crew members from the Loch Ness RNLI Lifeboat Station were tasked at 11.32am to launch the Loch Ness RNLI Sheila & Dennis Tongue IV lifeboat and made their way towards the north shoreline of the loch near the Lochside Hostel.
Simon Cameron, volunteer Helm at Loch Ness RNLI Lifeboat Station, said: ‘We were tasked by HM Coastguard to locate a yacht that had drifted from its mooring and was believed to be on the north shore of the loch.
'After locating the yacht, a member of the volunteer crew boarded the vessel to check for casualties and assess any damage.
‘We believe the vessel had drifted from Cherry Island in Fort Augustus, around 10 miles from where it was located, due to high winds from the previous night. Fortunately, there were no casualties on board but the vessel had taken on a large amount of water.
'We made the decision to secure the vessel to the shoreline before returning safely to the lifeboat station.’
