Wells RNLI D-797 launch’s to 5 people cut off by tide

The volunteer crew launched the D Class lifeboat at 1:08pm and proceeded out of Wells Harbour to the west, arriving on scene at 1:12pm, a crew member was put ashore to talk to a young person who had waded out onto the sandbank. The lifeboat remained on scene until they were safely back on the main part of the beach.

The inshore lifeboat D-797 did a sweep of the beach and found no further casualties cut off by the incoming tide, HM Coastguards stood the lifeboat down at 1:18pm and it returned to station and was rehoused and ready again for service by 1:35pm

The station is pleased that today’s rescue was straight forward and all was well, but to avoid getting caught out by the tide, please check the tide times before setting out along the coast. It is essential to be back on the main part of the beach, where the sand is dry and soft, at least four hours before high tide to prevent being cut off.
