RNLI Jersey is proud to announce several significant crew achievements across the island, marking a particularly successful October for the station.

Volunteer Fleur, based at St Helier, has qualified as helm for the inshore lifeboat, becoming the first female in many years to do so at the station. Her assessment tested her skills in search patterns, anchoring, boat handling, and managing emergency situations.

In addition to Fleur’s achievement, Chris at St Helier recently qualified as an all-weather lifeboat navigator.

At St Catherine’s station, four committed crew members Rog, Nick, Brian, and Ged each passed their Tier 2 crew assessments. These qualifications confirm their readiness to assist in saving lives at sea and underscore their dedication to extensive training, which is essential for the challenging conditions they may face at sea.

Nigel Sweeny, Lifeboat Operations Manager, said, “Each of these crew members successfully completed a series of demanding assessments, demonstrating their ability to handle a variety of search and rescues scenarios and emergency situations. Their commitment to the RNLI’s lifesaving mission is truly commendable, and I would like to personally thank them all for their hard work and dedication.”

The RNLI’s training program is a significant commitment, with volunteers often dedicating hundreds of hours to develop the skills needed for effective lifesaving. None of this would be possible without the generosity of the local community. As a charity funded entirely by donations, RNLI Jersey relies on the support of islanders to fund training, equipment, and the maintenance of lifeboats. The station extends heartfelt thanks to all who contribute, making these recent accomplishments possible.
