Wells RNLI assist two people and a dog cut off by the tide
Wells RNLI's inshore lifeboat Peter Wilcox was tasked at 12:28pm on Tuesday 26 November by HM Coastguard to assist two people and a dog cut off by the incoming tide on the west sand near the harbour entrance.
The people were visible from the boathouse and the volunteer crew launched the D class lifeboat at 12:38pm and proceeded out of Wells Harbour to the west, arriving on scene at 12:41pm.
The crew checked the people were unharmed and required no medical assistance. The two people and dog were helped on board the inshore lifeboat and taken to the safety of the outer harbour pontoon and met by the Coastguard officer.
The inshore lifeboat D-797 returned to station and was rehoused and ready again for service by 1:12pm.
RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, Chris Hardy said: 'Getting cut off by the tide at this time of the year can be particularly dangerous due to the increased risk of cold water shock. If you are cut off by the tide call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Please check tide times before heading out.
'We're pleased that today’s rescue was straight forward and all was well, but to avoid getting caught out by the tide, please check the tide times before setting out along the coast. It is essential to be back on the main part of the beach, where the sand is dry and soft, at least four hours before high tide to prevent being cut off.'
