On Tuesday 26 November 2024, our Lifeboat Visits Officer Geoff Gee, with visits team member and shore crew Adam Jones, welcomed 16 Beaver Scouts and 13 Cub Scouts from the 1st Looe Scout group to the Albatross boathouse. Geoff and Adam showed the scouts around the charity's launch tractors and inshore lifeboats and explained to the group how our RNLI volunteer crews save lives at sea.

The Beaver and Cub Scouts have been working towards their Challenge Award by undertaking sponsored glow stick night hikes through Kilminorth Woods. As part of the challenge, the scouts decided to raise funds for Looe RNLI. During their visit Beaver Scouts Audrey and Edie presented Geoff with a £180 donation and Cub Scout Jack presented their donation of £190. Their visit to the Lifeboat Station completed the challenge as meeting representatives of one of the emergency services was the final requirement for gaining their Challenge badge.

Geoff and Adam thanked the scouts on behalf of our volunteer crew for all their hard work and these generous donations. Geoff went on to say “All the children were very knowledgeable about the work we do, and their enthusiasm was brilliant”

During the visit the Beaver leader, Paul Richardson presented Beaver Scouts, Audrey and Edie with Chief Scout Bronze Awards. Paul says “The Chief Scout Bronze Award are the highest award a Beaver can earn, and they are very rarely awarded! Audrey and Edie are fantastic role models for our younger beavers. Many, many congratulations Audrey and Edie.” To get the award Audrey and Edie had to complete all of the Challenge Awards, which are about stepping outside personal comfort zones, along with four Activity Badges.
