Celebrating 200 Years of the RNLI with a Thanksgiving Service in Liverpool
Join our West Kirby, Hoylake and New Brighton RNLI crew members on Saturday 5 October 2024, at Liverpool's historic Sailors’ Church to celebrate our bicentenary.
On Saturday 5 October, at 10.30am, Liverpool Parish Church will hold a special service of thanksgiving dedicated to 200 years of saving lives at sea, led by the Rt Reverend John Perumbalath, Bishop of Liverpool.
During this Thanksgiving service, we will commemorate those who have gone before us, celebrate our incredible volunteers of today, and inspire the next generation of lifesavers. Attendees will include past and present crew members, RNLI volunteers and many supportive local residents.

Andy Brown, West Kirby RNLI Launch Authority, said: ‘We're incredibly proud to see crew members from West Kirby, Hoylake, and New Brighton uniting to represent the Wirral RNLI lifeboat stations at this special celebration of the charity's bicentenary. This event at the Sailors’ Church is a powerful reminder of our shared commitment to saving lives at sea and the enduring spirit of our maritime community.’
The RNLI, a charity that saves lives at sea, relies entirely on donations and the efforts of its volunteers. The upcoming service will not only be a tribute to its past achievements but also a call to the community to continue their support for this essential organisation.
As the RNLI’s 200th anniversary celebrations continue, don't miss the chance to see a Shannon class lifeboat at Albert Dock on 5 October. This stop is part of the Coast to Cobbles event, where a lifeboat will launch from Silloth, Cumbria, and journey to Salford Quays, carrying a time capsule and gathering stories to inspire future generations.
