Volunteer crew at RNLI Port Talbot were delighted to welcome Mark to the station. On arrival, Mark immediately greeted the volunteer shop team asking about the number of volunteers and the opening times whilst showing much appreciation of the excellent work that the team do in being the front face of the station, opening up to the public 7 days a week.
Lifeboat Operations Manager Clive Morris then introduced Mark to the wider team including fundraising, station crew and management.
Mark invited the team over a cuppa to ask any questions that they wanted to ask. It was great to see the open and honest engagement between everyone and the team were appreciative of the visit.
Sue Summerfield Port Talbot Fundraising Chair said: ‘It was an honour to have Mark visit us at Port Talbot RNLI. Although nervous to meet our CEO he was down to earth, very informative and honest with his engagement’.
Later in the day, Hugh Davies RNLI Lifeboat Assessor put some of the volunteer crew through their paces in a number of scenario-based assessments which saw crew member Damian Hill complete his training and signed off as qualified crew. Well done, Damian!

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,700 lives.
