Weymouth RNLI delivers safety presentation at Royal Dorset Yacht Club
As more sailors set sail at the start of warmer weather, volunteers from Weymouth RNLI delivered a yacht safety presentation at the Royal Dorset Yacht Club last night.
The attentive audience learnt about, amongst other things;
Yacht safety, life jackets, means for calling for help, vessel maintenance, and passage planning.
Simon Burgess water safety volunteer said: ‘No one goes to the coast expecting to get in to difficulties so prepare for your passage. For example maintain your vessel, get the right training, and check the weather forecast and tide times. If you do get into difficulties, which can still happen to the most prepared and experienced sailors, always carry a means of calling for help e.g. a VHF radio or fully charged mobile phone in a waterproof pouch, and call the Coastguard. And of course, always wear a lifejacket.’
The RNLI volunteer safety team are embarking on a series of safety talks aimed at different groups who enjoy the water especially in the warmer months. If you’d like a safety talk for your group, please contact [email protected] .
