Weymouth ALB launched to assist a 24' single handed yacht with a broken rudder
Weymouth RNLI all-weather Severn class lifeboat Ernest & Mabel ON1261 17-32 was launched at 4.05pm on Friday 21st July 2017 to go to the assistance of a 7m yacht which was in trouble just South of Portland Breakwater.
The yacht with 1 persons on board was on passage from Poole to Falmouth when she suffered a broken rudder. The yacht had twin rudders but with one broken off was difficulties controlling the vessel.
Once on scene, the volunteer crew of the lifeboat established that the yacht crew were fit and well and then attached a tow line and brought the yacht back to the waiting pontoon of Weymouth Harbour, arriving back at 5.15pm.
