Hartlepool RNLI volunteers Easter egg donation
Hartlepool RNLI volunteers have donated over 100 chocolate eggs to an Easter Sunday event that will see over a thousand motorcyclists deliver the eggs to hospital children's wards around the region.
One of the event organisers, Tony Hudspith, who is a deputy launch authority at the Ferry Road lifeboat station said "This is a fantastic donation from the volunteer crew members that will hopefully put a smile on the faces of children in hospital over the Easter holidays. We will have over a thousand bikers taking part in the event which will visit local hospital children's wards around the region to deliver the eggs. Hartlepool RNLI lifeboat Operations Manager Chris Hornsey said "We hope the event is a great success and we are delighted to help Tony and his team."
Key facts about the RNLI
The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
