Whitby RNLI rescue passengers from boat stranded on rocks at Sandsend.
The vessel ran aground after suffering from engine failure.
The small power boat with four on board started to run adrift after suffering engine failure and quickly became stranded on the rocks just North of Sandsend near Whitby.
The RNLI crew launched inshore lifeboat, a RIB which is capable of landing ashore, and upon locating the vessel began to extract the casualties.
All four on board, who were uninjured, were transferred to the inshore lifeboat and brought ashore. It was not possible to establish a tow on the boat due to its position on the rocks.
This was performed later when the tide came back in after RNLI crew helped secure a safe anchor on the boat.
Jonathan Marr who was helm on the RNLI inshore lifeboat said: ‘This is an example of how quickly things can escalate at sea when something goes wrong, a machinery failure quickly turned into a more dangerous situation, luckily those aboard were able to call for help or the outcome could have been very different.
The RNLI advises everyone out at sea to carry a reliable means of calling for help such as a VHF radio and a personal locator beacon. And encourages all those on the water to wear a lifejacket.’
