Hartlepool RNLI assist with medevac

Lifeboats News Release

Hartlepool RNLI volunteers were paged by Humber Coastguard at 5.55pm on Monday 3rd August to assist a male who had suffered an illness on board a ship that was moored 3 miles off Hartlepool.

The all weather lifeboat ‘Betty Huntbatch’ and volunteer crew launched at 6.15pm and were alongside the vessel at 6.30pm.
Four crewmembers were placed aboard the ship where two of the crew administered casualty care to the male.
A Coastguard helicopter arrived at 6.46pm and lowered a crewmember to assist with the casualty and and then winch the casualty from the ship and take him to hospital. The all weather lifeboat returned to the Ferry Road lifeboat station and was refuelled and made ready for service by 8.00pm.
Second coxswain Garry Waugh said ‘This was our second shout of the day and the sort of situation that the crew train for on a regular basis and it was also good to work with the helicopter crew. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery’.
