Flint RNLI host Big Dee Day launch
Flint RNLI host Big Dee Day launch welcoming approximately 70 guests. These include representatives from Flintshire council, whose countryside ranger’s co-ordinate the scheme, along with local businesses, councillors and volunteers.
Big Dee Day brings together volunteers, local organisations and businesses from all over Flintshire throughout the week to conduct litter picks, clean ups and bulb plantings along the coastline and tributaries covering an area spanning from Chester to Talacre and south Denbighshire. Flint RNLI volunteers have been involved with the Big Dee Day event since it was first launched in 2007, helping to clean up marine litter from Flint foreshore.
Numerous awards were presented during the launch, including an award to Flint RNLI for commitment to the Big Dee Day clean up, presented by Hannah Blythyn AM.
Matt Taylor, BBC Breakfast, attended the launch talking to our volunteers about our involvement in Big Dee Day and helping us share vital safety messages. Alan Forrester, Lifeboat Operations Manager said: ‘It’s great to be a part of such a big community event, bringing people together to invest time into our coastline, protecting local wildlife and to make the area a place the community and visitors can enjoy.’
