Weymouth RNLI’s lifeboat week takes place from Sunday 22nd July to Saturday 28th July with a fun packed week of events planned.

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea and as part of the ongoing need for fund raising and our aim to pass simple but important safety messages to the public of all ages, Weymouth RNLI lifeboat station is holding this year's lifeboat week from Sunday 22nd July to Saturday 28th July.

Lifeboat week is the main Weymouth RNLI fundraising week with a fun packed week planned with something for all the family.

Starting with the traditional service of the blessing of the lifeboats on Sunday 22nd to the lifeboat open day on the 28th July when the Weymouth lifeboats are open for members of the public to get onto the lifeboats and meet the volunteer crew members.

Sunday 22nd The blessing of the lifeboats will take place at 7.30pm at the lifeboat Station and will be led by the clergy team from Holy Trinity Church

Monday 23rd At 7pm, the first of two lifeboat displays will take place. The Nothe Gardens is the best place to watch from and to enjoy all the other things happening. The RNLI lifeboats and RNLI lifeguards will be working with the Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team and, operationally dependent, the Coastguard helicopter to give a fabulous display show casing the work that our volunteer lifeboat crews undertake on a daily basis.

At the Nothe Gardens from 6pm there will be a bar selling beer and soft drinks, a hog roast provided by Dennis from the Famous Sausage Factory, stalls for bric-a-brac, jewellery, tombola, raffle and Grand draw, the RNLI shop, Punch & Judy show, vintage cars, tug of war and live music from The Speedway Snails.

At the same time as the Nothe display, a fishing competition is being held on the Stone Pier. Run by Billy Short from Weymouth Angling Club the event will be from 6.30pm -8pm

Tue 24th Following on from the success of last year's Stand Up Paddleboard event, it is now to be an annual event. Organised by Weymouth Water Sports at Ferrybridge near Billy Winters, this is a team event where up to 10 people race in relay around a set course. After a number of heats a final is run to determine the overall winning team. It is £50 per team to enter and teams need to register in advance by ringing 07743 346468

Wed 25th is the second lifeboat/lifeguard/Coastguard display, this time at Bowlease Cove. The display starts at just before 7pm

Thur 26th is a crabbing competition on the quay from the Cove to the Sailing Club, from 2pm to 4pm. Prizes will be awarded for the largest number of crabs caught, the biggest crab and the crab with the most barnacles. Again organised by Billy Short from Weymouth Angling Club.

A night of Folk music is being held at Pilgrim House in Hope Sq featuring; Doc Clarks Remedy, Gregory Schofield and the Two Peas from 7.30pm -11pm Tickets are limited and cost £7 and are only available from Teresa on 07917 163459 or Dave on 07789270934

Fri 27th A sandcastle competition for the whole family to join in is being held on the beach opposite Rossies Ice Cream Parlour. The event runs from 1pm to 3pm with judging being carried out by Weymouth's own Mr Sandman- Mark Anderson

Sat 28th from 10.30am to 4pm Weymouth all-weather and Inshore lifeboats are open to the public to look around and talk to the volunteer crew.

The week aims to show the public the great work that our volunteer lifeboat crews do and raise money for the RNLI, the charity that is dedicated to saving lives at sea. The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts.
