Stephen reaches peak for Hartlepool RNLI
Hartlepool fundraiser Stephen Jones and his friend Jeff Brown hit the heights by climbing an impressive 8,346 feet to reach the summit of the Moldoveanu Peak in Romania during a two and a half day climb that took place last year which raised £1,600 for the Hartlepool RNLI.
Stephen explained: 'I was in the Royal Navy for several years so I know how important sea safety is.
‘I live close to the sea so I thought the local RNLI station and its volunteer crew members were the best charity to support.'
Stephen went on to say: ‘The hardest part of the climb was along the ridge that leads to the peak but we had a great sense of satisfaction when we had finished the climb.’
Chris Hornsey deputy launch authority at the Ferry Road lifeboat station said: ‘we are very grateful for this donation which I know Stephen has had to work extremely hard for to achieve.
‘The money raised will go towards the on-going training for the crew members here and saving lives at sea.’
