Courtmacsherry RNLI rescues three on 65ft fishing boat off Old Head of Kinsale
Courtmacsherry RNLI's all-weather lifeboat was called out at 10.15pm last night (Wednesday 9 November) to go to the aid of a 65ft fishing vessel that sought assistance, 25 miles south of the Old Head of Kinsale in West Cork.
The lifeboat under Coxswain Sean O'Farrell and a crew of six launched immediately in the darkness of night and located the casualty at 11.25pm. The fishing boat, with three people on board had encountered difficulties with its power, while trawling in the area and required help.
On scene, the lifeboat quickly assessed the difficulties with the casualty and for the next two hours, the lifeboat and stricken vessel proceeded back at low speed to Kinsale, arriving at 1.45am. With the boat now in the safe surrounds of the Kinsale berthing facilities, the lifeboat returned to base in Courtmacsherry and refuelled and restocked in readiness of whenever the next Callout may be. It was back to bed for the lifeboat crew members just after 3am.
Conditions at sea last night were reasonable with winds in the area blowing 26 knots.
The crew on board last night's call out were Coxswain Sean O'Farrell and crew members Stewart Russell (mechanic), Ken Cashman, Donal Young, Ciaran Hurley, Denis Murphy and Conor Tyndall.
