Saving lives in wartime
Today, many of us will be paying our respects to the fallen, giving thanks to those who sacrificed their lives in service of their country.
Remembrance Day is especially poignant given the role played by the RNLI in the Dunkirk evacuation. Alongside 700 private boats, 20 RNLI lifeboats sailed from Ramsgate to Dunkirk as part of Operation Dynamo, helping to rescue more than 338,000 British and French soldiers who were trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk during the Second World War.

Their lifesaving spirit is continued in the brave volunteer crews of today, who still do all they can to save every one.
