RNLI Tower Lifeboat Station

Tower Lifeboat Station

Operating from Lifeboat Pier on the River Thames in central London, Tower Lifeboat is our busiest lifeboat station. Because of the need for even faster response times, there is a crew on station around the clock.

Tower RNLI involved in multi-agency operation to rescue man from water culvet
Tower lifeboat launched to reports of a person in the water near Waterloo bridge. Further information received during their search led them to an enclosed area inaccessible to the lifeboat. Without any visual from the water side and the individual seen only by police on the embankment 30 foot above the only option to stabilise the male was to send one of the crew into the culvert. The male was given a Perry buoy and a throw line was used to keep contact with the male when lifting him out was impossible due to his size and the fast dropping tide. The dropping tide meant the male was getting further from the crew and extrication becoming more challenging due to the restricted space and difficult access. With assistance from land side fire crews and multiple ladders the male was extricated and handed over to London Ambulance Crews.
