Branch information

Established in 1920, the Branch has directly funded three lifeboats:

  • an early Liverpool class boat which served at New Quay Cardiganshire 1948-70
  • a B class inshore rescue boat at Burnham on Crouch 1969-73
  • a prototype (wooden hulled) Atlantic class 21 at West Mersea 1972-6

Of course we also always welcome any volunteers to help with the organisation.

The Branch committee is keen to hear from any lifeboat enthusiasts and supporters who live in Hertfordshire, so that we can notify you of events. Please make contact via the e-mail address.

Store and street collectors, especially during Lifeboat week. Committee members.

Please contact the branch for opportunities or check our volunteering vacancies.

After having to cancel most of our activities in 2020 and 2021, including our centenary celebrations, the Branch is now resuming - and extending - its fund raising activities.
Regular events include the sale of souvenirs at local events, a quiz night with fish and chip supper, talks about the RNLI to schools and groups, a Christmas sale of cards and calendars, outings and both street and store collections.

Events already planned for 2022 include

  • On 20th June we held a successful and well attended “Celebration of Lifeboats” with an excellent illustrated talk by Paul Gillions
  • On August 29th to 31st Morrisons supermarket kindly allowed us to have a collection stand near the checkout
  • Our planned outing to Dover Lifeboat Station and Castle scheduled for 1st September sadly had to be cancelled
  • We shall be actively collecting in St Albans Market Place on market days in Lifeboat Week: Wednesday 28th September and Saturday 1st October
  • The committee has decided to postpone the Quiz Night and Fish and Chip Supper, originally planned for 17th September, until Saturday 4th March 2023. This is a more appropriate time of year for such an event and is when it was regularly held prior to the pandemic

For more information on upcoming meetings, please contact the group by emailing [email protected].
