Branch information
Brightlingsea is a coastal town and an electoral ward in the Tendring district of Essex, England. It is situated between Colchester and Clacton-on-Sea, at the mouth of the River Colne, on Brightlingsea Creek.
A popular yachting destination with excellent sailing facilities and other watersports amenities, along with an annual regatta.
The area has a long history of shipbuilding and seafaring. The town is an ancient member of the Cinque Port of Sandwich, granted by Edward the Confessor.
Our nearest lifeboat station is Clacton on Sea, and we work closely with their branch to support fundraising with the RNLI.
We also have the support of the Motley Crew, a group of sea shanty singers who sing to raise funds for the RNLI. They give their time freely to assist us and are well received in all the events they attend.
Our branch has been in existence for over 25 years and is well supported by the town. We are actively engaged in many events throughout the year. We are fortunate that the current Deputy of the Cinque port stands as a President each year and supports us with fundraising.
We are a friendly branch and work closely with each other to support our events and raise funds.
The committee meets approximately 6-8 times a year.
Many Brightlingsea residents are connected with the sea so are very aware of the need to support the RNLI.
We hold several events each year, a very enjoyable Fish supper which is supported by the Motley Crew – a street collection, Christmas late night shopping, and we join in with many more throughout the town.
We actively encourage and welcome new members to support the branch and help with our events.
