New mandatory safeguarding training launches today

To help strengthen our safeguarding culture and support the launch of our new Safeguarding Operational Model later this year, we're introducing a new mandatory safeguarding eLearning package for all volunteers and staff.

Available from today (Monday 24 August), the training has been designed to help everyone understand their safeguarding responsibilities, recognise concerns and know how to respond appropriately. It aligns with our updated Safeguarding Policy and includes a short assessment to check understanding.

What you need to know

• The new safeguarding training is available from today.
• The training is mandatory for all volunteers and staff.
• It includes a short assessment.
• You must complete the training within six months of launch.
• Completing the training will help ensure we're all ready for the introduction of the new Safeguarding Operational Model in October.

How to access the training

Operational volunteers and staff can complete the training through Learning Zone, and volunteers without an RNLI email address complete it through Volunteer Platform.

Lifeguards

Our seasonal lifeguards will complete the safeguarding training as part of their 2027 induction.

Keeping people safe is at the heart of everything we do.

Whether you are a volunteer or a member of staff, you play an important role in creating a safe and inclusive environment. This training will help you build your knowledge, confidence and understanding of safeguarding, ensuring you know what to do if you have a concern.

The training also supports the launch of our new Safeguarding Operational Model in October. The model introduces clearer ways of working, helping us to respond consistently, meet our safeguarding responsibilities and continue building a strong safeguarding culture across the RNLI.

Please access the training through the relevant platform and complete it within the six-month deadline.
