Volunteer survey – topline results

Thank you all for sharing your feedback in the recent volunteer and staff surveys. I’m very grateful that so many of you took the time to share your thoughts – it’s extremely important that we continue to listen and act on your feedback as we shape the future of the RNLI together as one crew.

We have had extremely high response rates across the organisation, and this clearly demonstrates the commitment and passion you all have for our cause. As I lead us into our third century of lifesaving, I am committed to working with my leadership team to take actions identified in the survey. We must remember this is our watch, and we are accountable to ensure we are doing the very best for our people, our supporters, and the people we are here to keep safe.

From our high-level results, we can see areas where we have already seen improvements, such as in our volunteer training provision. This is encouraging, and something we will continue to focus on. There are also some areas that I understand need more focus and attention - particularly around providing clarity around our future direction. I hope my 100-Day Review update last week provides the assurance of my commitment to keep you updated as the development of our next 5-Year Plan evolves.

Over the next few weeks, I will be spending time with the Executive Team to fully understand your feedback and we will be looking at how to make improvements and implement changes, where needed. The Executive Team and I are fully aligned and committed to taking these results forward and demonstrating clear and tangible actions based on what you have told us.

In the meantime, here are the topline results from the recent volunteer survey:

At this stage, these are only the headline results – we are due to receive the more detailed reports from our survey provider in November, which you will be able to speak to your staff manager about for more information.

Please take some time to review the headline figures and talk about them among your teams. Once we have the full results next month, I will be putting in place a firm plan to outline how action will be taken based on these results.

It is my duty to listen and act on your feedback, and I want you to feel reassured that progress and actions will be delivered. I look forward to updating you again towards the end of November.

Thank you again for your openness and honesty in our surveys, and for everything you do for this incredible organisation.
