Our Chelsea garden is only possible thanks to passion, talent and kindness.

And that has powered the RNLI for almost 200 years. From the day the charity was founded at the London Tavern in Bishopsgate, people have supported the RNLI and its volunteers in ways that bring out the best in all of us. We have grown into a charity that saves every one we can with safety advice, lifeguarding and lifeboat crews. In fact, our busiest lifeboat crew members are based on the River Thames, often seen heading to the rescue just a stone's throw from the Flower Show.

The Chelsea garden is made possible by generous support from the new Project Giving Back initiative at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022. This page will be regularly updated with information on the garden's progress, and you can also get updates on social media using #RNLIatChelsea.

The money raised from the garden will help our crews save lives at sea.

Support us today and make a lifesaving difference.

Meet our designer

Multi-award-winning garden designer and plantsman, Chris Beardshaw, returns to RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May 2022, as part of the new Project Giving Back initiative, to create our Show Garden. Chris, who has been a lifelong supporter of the RNLI, designed our garden as a celebration of our almost 200-year lifesaving history and cutting-edge modernity.

Watch our film to hear Chris explain more about the garden.

Our garden

Our show garden is calm, confident and inspires inquisitiveness. It cleverly draws from our Georgian origins and marries them with more contemporary design cues to reflect the forward-thinking organisation that we are today. This combination echoes the RNLI’s sense of permanence, while offering a space to reflect on the breadth of our lifesaving work.
