In light of recent government announcements the RNLI College will be closed to the public from Thursday 5 November. If you have a reservation or booking with us at the RNLI College a member of our team will be in contact shortly.
All RNLI shops, museums and visitor centres in England will be closed to the public from Thursday. We are also reviewing RNLI shops, museums and visitor centres in other parts of the UK and Ireland and the Government guidance in those areas as they also develop. A further update will be available soon. Our lifeboat stations remain operational but are not open to visitors.
Our lifeboats will continue to launch to those in peril at sea. We urge you to follow government instructions. But if you are at the coast, please take extra care and follow our safety advice. Thank you and stay safe.
We hope to be able to welcome you back to the RNLI College soon.
Due to crew training there is limited parking on-site. However, local pay and display car parks are within walking distance of the College. If you are travelling by minibus or coach, then please inform the Events team who will be able to advise on the location of the nearest coach parking facilities.
A working venue
Please note that the RNLI College is a working venue and so we cannot guarantee access to the wave tank or simulator due to training requirements.
The building is designed to be fully accessible to all guests and we have two lifts located at the reception for easy access to each floor. Tours are 90 minutes long and there is a considerable amount of walking involved. If any guests will be using a mobility aid on the day, please make us aware in advance so that we can allow sufficient volunteer tour guide support.
For guests who are deaf or who have hearing impairments we have the following products available for visitors to the RNLI College.
There’s a permanent induction hearing loops in the Waterfront Suite.
We also have portable loops available for use in our other function rooms and for our Discovery and ALC tours are available on request at time of booking (subject to availability). People with hearing aids will need to adjust them to use the loop system.

On the day
Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your start time and inform reception of your arrival. Tours commence from the main College reception at the designated time.

Save enough time to call into our shop and pick up the perfect gift or souvenir. We’ve got homewares, clothing, tasty treats, toys, greeting cards, and much, much more. Our shops are run by volunteers, and all profits help save lives at sea.
Training is fundamental to saving lives. Through the training of our own lifesavers and that of our college visitors, we’re making a difference to the number of lives saved at sea. In 2016, our volunteer lifeboat crews rescued 8,851 and save 431 lives. Our lifeguards additionally saved 127 lives and aided 20,538 people last year. And with every £1 spent at RNLI College, you too are helping us provide the training to save lives at sea.

Only original vouchers bearing a valid serial number will be accepted. RNLI College reserves the right to refuse vouchers which are damaged, defaced or do not feature a valid serial number. Please mention your voucher at the time of booking and present your voucher on arrival to the RNLI College. Where the total cost of dinner, accommodation or monetary value is more than the face value of the voucher, the balance must be settled on departure. Vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash neither in full or in part, where the total cost is less than the face value of the voucher, vouchers will not be issued for the balance. Booking is necessary and is subject to availability.
