Image download terms and conditions

This document contains the terms and conditions of service to its clients (the Client) of the Film & Image Unit at the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (the Institution). No variation of these terms or conditions shall apply unless agreed in writing by the Institution.

Any unauthorised reproduction of the Institution’s copyright images constitutes an infringement of rights, rendering those responsible liable for the payment of fees not less than twice that charged for properly authorised reproduction, in addition to damages, if appropriate.

The purchase of prints and supply of digital files from the Institution does not confer the rights to store or reproduce them or otherwise make them available to the public in any medium or form. Nor does the supply of prints and digital files by the Institution imply the availability of these rights.

If and when rights are granted by the Institution, they are non-exclusive and are strictly limited to the use, period of time and the territory specified on the invoice. Invoices do not constitute a licence until payment - in full – has been received. Any reproduction of the images before full payment of the invoice or outside the terms of the licence constitutes an infringement of rights, rendering the Client liable for the payment of damages.

On full payment of the invoice, reproduction rights are granted to the Client, as specified on the invoice, and are non-transferable.

The Client must credit all images as follows (unless indicated otherwise): “RNLI”. Images must not be altered, cropped or otherwise manipulated in any way without the Institution’s express written consent prior to publication, and such alterations to the presentation of an image must be acknowledged alongside the reproduction. If you fail to credit the image correctly an additional 50% of the original licence fee will be payable.

The Institution’s images must not be copied, stored or transmitted in electronic or other media unless by separate written permission. 

The Client must send at least one complimentary copy of each publication or product in which a licensed image appears to the Institution for our records.

The Client must agree to indemnify the Institution against damages as a result of unauthorised or defamatory use of the images. The Client must satisfy his or herself that all necessary rights, model releases or consents that may be required for reproduction, are obtained. The Institution makes no claim or warranty with regard to the Client’s use of names, people, trademarks or copyright material depicted in any image.

The Institution reserves the publication right in all images supplied by the Film & Image Unit.
