Redcar RNLI called to assist stricken Jet Skiers
Redcar RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew were tasked at 4.33pm on Saturday 26 September to rescue two casualties who were spotted on board a broken-down jet ski approximately half a mile offshore at Marske by the Sea. Weather conditions were good with clear visibility and smooth seas.
The jet skiers were being assisted by a passing kayaker who was attempting to tow them back to shore. After quickly assessing the situation, it was decided to take the two casualties on board the Atlantic 85 Leicester Challenge III where they were checked over and found to be cold but otherwise well.
The jet ski and casualties were taken back to shore at Marske while the kayaker continued safely on his journey.
Mike Picknett, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Redcar RNLI said: ‘It was good to see that both casualties were wearing lifejackets.’ He added that: ‘You should always carry a means of calling for help and it is vital to make sure that your engine is well maintained and that you have enough fuel for your journey.’
