In heavy rain showers with a fresh breeze Islay’s volunteer crew launched the all-weather lifeboat, The Helmut Schroder of Dunlossit II, with seven crew on board and made their way to the casualty vessel’s location.

On scene, the fishing boat crew were managing to successfully pump out the incoming water. Islay RNLI were able to escort the vessel to the nearest safe and suitable port at West Loch Tarbert to ensure they were safe.

Once the vessel was safely moored Islay’s lifeboat crew returned to Port Askaig at 11pm where the all-weather lifeboat was made ready again for service.

If you see somebody in trouble on the water or along the coast or think that they are in trouble, use marine VHF radio Ch 16 or dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
