RNLI lifeguards return to Le Braye for October half term
RNLI lifeguards will return to Le Braye, St Ouen's Bay for the October half-term school holiday, providing safety cover for beachgoers visiting Jersey's coastline during the autumn break.
RNLI lifeguards will be on duty daily at Le Braye, St Ouen's Bay, from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November 2026.
While summer may be over, the October half-term period remains a popular time for families, surfers and water sports enthusiasts to visit the coast. The RNLI is encouraging anyone planning a trip to the beach to choose a lifeguarded beach and seek advice from lifeguards before entering the water.
Henry Saddler-Irvine, RNLI Regional Lifeguard Lead for the South West, said:
‘We're pleased to be returning to St Ouen's Bay during the October half-term holiday to help keep local residents and visitors safe while enjoying the coast.
‘Autumn can bring challenging sea conditions, including larger waves, stronger currents and rapidly changing weather. Even when the beach appears calm, hazards can exist in the water, so we encourage people to take extra care and make use of the lifeguard service while it is available.
‘Choosing a lifeguarded beach, checking conditions before you visit and speaking to our lifeguards for local knowledge are simple steps that can make a big difference to staying safe at the coast.’

The RNLI is also reminding beach visitors to check weather forecasts and tide times before heading out and to remain aware of changing sea and weather conditions throughout the day.
If you find yourself in difficulty in the water, remember the RNLI's Float to Live advice. Tilt your head back with your ears submerged, relax and try to control your breathing. Use your hands to help you stay afloat and call for help if you can.
