Launching Largs lifeboat

The tasking from HM Coastguard was to assist a RIB with two people on board reporting to have engine failure north of Toward Point, heading towards Dunoon.

The volunteers launched the lifeboat ‘R. A. Wilson’ and made best speed to the given location.

On arrival a dynamic risk assessment was conducted and due to the high risk of the vessel drifting near to the shore, or into shipping lanes, volunteer crew onboard the lifeboat decided the safest option was to tow the vessel into the nearest safe haven at Holy Loch Marina.

Following consultation and communication with HM Coastguard the casualty vessel was assisted to berth.

With everyone safe and the casualty vessel now safely in the marina, Largs lifeboat was stood down by HM Coastguard.

The volunteers onboard returned to Largs lifeboat station where the lifeboat was refulled, washed down and made ready for the next service.

If you get into difficulty at sea or along the coast, or spot someone else in trouble, always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
