Kirkcudbright RNLI’s first shout for George D Dow lifeboat
Kirkcudbright RNLI Lifeboat Station’s new lifeboat, George D Dow, was tasked by HM Coastguard for the first time on Sunday 11 October.
At 9.48am on Sunday 11 October, HM Coastguard tasked Kirkcudbright RNLI to an angler in difficulty near Garlieston.
Upon arrival at the scene, the angler was shoulder deep in water and in need of assistance. Due to the large rocks around the casualty, the lifeboat was unable to get close enough to assist and requested the support of the HM Coastguard rescue helicopter which arrived on scene and airlifted the casualty ashore to hospital.
The Kirkcudbright RNLI lifeboat, George D Dow, then returned to the boathouse to be refuelled and made ready for next service.
Launch Authority, Keith Armstrong-Clark thanked the volunteer crew for their excellent response to this first callout on George D Dow.
In addition to this being the first call out for Kirkcudbright RNLI’s lifeboat, George D Dow, it was also volunteer Jack’s first shout as Helm. The helm is responsible for keeping the crew safe and coordinating lifesaving operations when out at sea.
