Change of Lifeboat Operations Manager at Falmouth RNLI
Long serving RNLI volunteer Nick Lewis stepped down as the station’s lifeboat operations manager in September and handed over the role to Launch Authority Jerry Plant.
Nick first joined the crew at Falmouth in 1985 and served on the inshore and all-weather lifeboats, later becoming a helm on the station’s B class Atlantic 21 inshore lifeboat. He stepped down from the crew in 2010 and took up a role as a deputy launching authority. In 2019 Nick was appointed as Falmouth RNLI’s Lifeboat Operations Manager. He was awarded a crew long service badge in 2005 and a 30-year long service medal in 2020.
Nick isn’t stepping away from the RNLI though as he is continuing as a launch authority.
Jerry joined the station as a launch authority in November 2022. He said: ‘I’ve been around Falmouth on and off since around 1996, when I came to Culdrose with the Royal Navy. I’ve sailed around the local area for many years and I feel privileged to take over from Nick.’
The role of lifeboat operations manager (previously honorary secretary) is important with helping to save lives at sea by overseeing the day-to-day management of the lifeboat station to ensure a permanent state of readiness for service.
