£3,000 donation to Aberdyfi RNLI following charity jet ski rideout

Lifeboats News Release

Aberdyfi RNLI is delighted to have received a £3,000 donation from Colwyn PWC Riders, following a charity jet ski rideout which saw more than 100 personal watercraft take to the water along the North Wales coast.

Member of Colwyn PWC Riders Chris Walton presents Aberdyfi RNLI with a donation from money raised from their rideout

The donation follows the spectacular event held in June, when a flotilla of more than 100 jet skis travelled from Black Rock Sands to Aberdyfi as part of a fundraising event supporting local good causes.

Aberdyfi RNLI’s volunteer crew joined the flotilla aboard the station’s B class inshore lifeboat, providing an escort as the riders made their way safely into the Dyfi Estuary. The event created an impressive sight on the water and brought together members of the personal watercraft community in support of charity.

The £3,000 donation was presented to Aberdyfi RNLI by former Aberdyfi lifeboatman Chris Walton, representing Colwyn PWC Riders, accompanied by his son Tom Walton, who is a local Coastguard Rescue Officer and Assistant Harbourmaster in Aberdyfi.

For Chris, the presentation was particularly special, having previously served as a volunteer crew member at Aberdyfi Lifeboat Station.

Wil Stockford, from Aberdyfi RNLI, said:

‘We are incredibly grateful to Colwyn PWC Riders for this very generous donation. The charity rideout was a fantastic event and it was a privilege for our crew to be involved.’

‘A donation of £3,000 will make a real difference to our station and ultimately help our volunteer crew continue to be there for those who find themselves in trouble on the water.’

‘It was also particularly lovely to receive the cheque from Chris, a former member of our own crew, alongside Tom, who continues to play an important role in keeping our local waters and harbour community safe.’

The RNLI is powered by volunteers and relies on donations and fundraising to maintain its lifeboats, equipment, training and stations.

Aberdyfi RNLI would like to thank Colwyn PWC Riders, everyone involved in organising the rideout, and all those who took part and helped raise funds for this very generous donation.
