Portrush RNLI’s All-weather Lifeboat was requested to launch by the Coastguard today (Thursday) at 6.46am to reports of a fishing vessel in difficulty at Inishowen.

Portrush RNLI’s All-weather Lifeboat was requested to launch by the Coastguard today (Thursday) at 6.46am to reports of a fishing vessel in difficulty at Inishowen.

The vessel with five persons on board had run aground and Greencastle Coastguard had also been alerted and where on way to the scene. Weather conditions were good with a light wind, partial cloudy skies and good visibility.

The volunteer crew arrived on scene at 7.28 am. The vessel had been towed off the rocks by another fishing boat and was able to make its own back to Greencastle Harbour. The ALB and her crew escorted the vessel and along with local fishing boats and Greencastle Delta. Crew were then stood down at 8.02 am

Beni McAllister Lifeboat Operations Manager said: -

‘The conditions for the shout this morning were ideal and the crew made good speed to the scene along with our colleagues at Greencastle Coastguard. Thanks to another fishing vessel all was good when we arrived and a tow had been established and was underway’.

The ALB and crew and now back on station refuelled and ready to go.
