Lifeboats News Release

At 12.54am, Belfast Coastguard requested both the all-weather and inshore lifeboats to assist Police Scotland and Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team with a missing person search in Ayr.

After their pagers sounded, the volunteer crew assembled, and the RNLI Shannon class all-weather lifeboat RNLB Roy Barker VI and D class inshore lifeboat Sheena soon headed south to begin the search.

Both lifeboats searched from the harbour south while police and coastguard teams continued enquiries ashore.

Police Scotland then confirmed that the person had been found so the search was stood down, and both lifeboats returned to Troon.

With help from the shore crew, both lifeboats were made ready for service but as the crew were heading home their pagers sounded again at 3.07am for a second search at Ayr.

Both the RNLI all-weather and inshore lifeboats launched again to join police and coastguard teams.

While the second search was underway, Police Scotland confirmed that following enquiries ashore officers had resolved the incident, and the harbour search was no longer needed.

The lifeboat crew returned to Troon, and once again made both lifeboats ready for service, before heading home to bed ahead of their day jobs.
