Diligence and hard work pays off for two Burnham-on-Sea RNLI volunteer crew
At a training evening this week (Weds 28th Oct), Burnham-on-Sea RNLI's volunteer crew members Megan Rundle and Jake Coombes undertook the RNLI assessment for the Tier 2 level qualification on our Atlantic 85 B Class Inshore Lifeboat.
For lifeboat crew, the system progresses through a lower level at which crew have the basic skills and knowledge to go afloat, through a Tier 1 level, and then up to Tier 2. Megan and Jake underwent their Tier 2 assessments afloat with RNLI local Coastal Trainer Assessor Tom Way, and achieved a successful Pass Out.
Duty Launch Authority Nigel Morton said "This is a significant achievement for both Megan and Jake, and is a very well-deserved outcome after all their hard work and training in both the theory and practice of operating safely afloat onboard the Atlantic. It is also a very welcome outcome for the station, as it adds to the number of higher level qualified crew that we need to keep the boats on service 24/7 in support of saving lives at sea'. Megan and Jake (who both also achieved Tier 2 status on our D Class Inshore Lifeboat recently), are pictured with RNLI Coastal Trainer Assessor, Tom Way.
