The Volunteer team at Porthdinllaen were afloat on the station`s Tamar class carrying out their weekly training exercise when UK Coastguard requested that the lifeboat divert to Porthcolmon area.

Making the best possible speed to the last known location of the casualties, more details was received from UK Coastguard, the Jet Ski with two occupants had encountered fuel issues and had no means of propulsion and that the second craft, a 19-foot pleasure boat with one occupant, had responded to their call for assistance, but unfortunately ran out of fuel.

After locating the casualty, three persons were taken aboard the lifeboat to be assessed by a Casualty Care trained crew member and found to be suffering from the effects of exposure to the cold.

The Lifeboat`s Y Class tender was launched and assisted in securing a tow line to both crafts, but by now the weather had deteriorated with heavy squalls and thunderstorms. After a slow and safe passage back to Porthdinllaen, both casualty vessels were safely secured ashore.

The three casualties were brought ashore at Porthdinllaen Lifeboat Station, where they were given a warm shower and beverage, and satisfied that no further medical treatment was required, were released into the care of an awaiting family member

The lifeboat was rehoused and refuelled ready for service by 9:40 PM

Kenneth Fitzpatrick, Lifeboat operations Manager at Porthdinllaen added “The weather deteriorated quickly tonight and the team here at Porthdinllaen were able to reach the casualties before the weather deteriorated. As always, thanks to our Colleagues at Holyhead Coastguard for their assistance”
