Newbiggin RNLI rescue person from the water after boat capsize
An urgent report of a person in the water sparked a major incident for volunteers at Newbiggin RNLI yesterday (Saturday 23 May).
A quick thinking member of the public had observed a capsized boat some distance from the shore with what looked like people clinging to it, out from the Cambois beach area. Humber coastguard received the 999 call and they made an immediate lifeboat assistance request to the Newbiggin RNLI team.
Minutes later volunteers at Newbiggin launched their Atlantic 85 B class lifeboat Richard Wake Burdon and immediately headed to the Cambois Bay area. At the same time coastguard rescue units from Newbiggin and Blyth were tasked to the beach to give further assistance in the search.
With the casualty located and rescued from the sea, immediate first aid was administered on the lifeboat, by the casualty care trained volunteers. The lifeboat then headed back to the station where an ambulance and paramedics where waiting to take the casualty on to hospital for further treatment.
