Busy 24 Hour Period for the Crews at The Lizard Lifeboat Station

Lifeboats News Release

For the third time in a little over 24 hours, our crew pagers sounded again at 3.13pm.

RNLI/Lyndsay Bray

Relief Tamar Class Lifeboat 'RNLB Eileen Muriel Rees'
Following a call from a concerned member of the public, Falmouth Coastguard requested we launch on service to reports of a 4M vessel with one person on board, drifting very close to rocks with possibly smoke also coming from the vessel within the Coverack area.
Relief Tamar 'RNLB Eileen Muriel Rees' launched under the command of Coxswain Darren Thirlaway at 3.24pm and proceeded to the scene. Upon arrival a short time later the crew were quickly able to establish that all was in fact well. The vessel was a 7M local fishing boat in no need of any assistance with the occupant carrying out routine work onboard with a pressure hose giving the impression that (from a distance) smoke could be seen.

Once confirmed that all was well the lifeboat was stood down to return to the station, arriving there at 3.55pm where she was rehoused and made ready for service again by 4.20pm. This was a service deemed as a false alarm made with good intent.

Another excellent response to their pagers from both our boat and shore crews.
